Phnom Penh, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Vandeth Chea, participated in a virtual discussion with Mr. Marc Mealy, Senior Vice President of US-ASEAN Business Council, and member companies, including Amazon, Google and Facebook. After the technical and policy discussion, meeting participants agreed on the following cooperation tasks: (1) draft policies on cloud services and data center, (2) initiatives to foster digital start-ups, (3) consultation on draft cybercrime law and cybersecurity law and (4) discussion on draft sub-decree on the national internet gateway and tax on digital services. MPTC requested that major tech companies fully comply with their tax obligations in alignment with the revenues generated from Cambodian consumers. The ministry once again expressed commitment to cooperation with the private sector for mutual benefits.
