H.E. Minister Prak Sokhonn Presided over the Opening Ceremony of Workshop and Demonstration on the Implementation of NerveNet Pilot Project in Cambodia.

NerveNet is a broadband network invented by NICT with capacity of data transfer up to 10 Mbps between the city and remote areas. It  is  the first time that NerveNet has been piloted outside of Japan at Sompong Chey Commune, Cherng Prey District, Kampong Cham Province, about 100 kilometers from Phnom Penh.
 
NerveNet is run by solar energy will enable people and students in rural areas, where are lacking of electricity and having telecommunication service coverage (2G), can easily receive data such as videos, images, and information on agriculture, health, education,  entertainment etc.
 
On opening speech to the Workshop, H.E. Minister Prak Sokhonn mentioned that NerveNet Pilot Project is to improve rural areas connectivity and increases researchers’ capacity in the field of Information and Communication Technology in Cambodia. NerveNet has high potential in strengthening connectivity for sharing  data and communicating in rural areas as well as between  rural areas and  cities aiming to bridge digital divide for both people living in rural areas and cities about 70% to be able to access to Internet services by 2020 and nation-wide by 2025.
 
H.E. Minister Prak Sokhonn also expressed his sympathy and highly appreciated to NIPTICT and NICT that co-organized the workshop as well as encouraging the two institutes to reinforce the cooperation. Furthermore, He has expressed his profound gratitude to the Government of Japan and Japanese people that always strongly contributed and supported Cambodia.
