Inauguration of Cambodia-Korea ICT Research Institute

On the 13th of March 2014 the inauguration ceremony of the Cambodia-Korea ICT Research Institute was taking place with the presence of H.E. Kan Chanmeta secretary of state and H.E. Lee ChangHan [A1] Deputy Minister of Ministry of science, ICT And future planning of Republic of Korea
In his report, H.E. Seng Sopheap director general of the institute highlighted that this institute aim to reduce the gap of digital divide and open wider opportunity for development of human resource in ICT sector. This institute will also provide public accessibility to available technology while increase ICT literacy and strengthen bond between Cambodia and Korea through experiences and skills transfer.
H.E. Lee ChangHan mentioned that even though there are many obstacles and challenges facing the establishment of this institute but through hard works and strong collaboration between Cambodia and Korea we were able to put this institute to use today. He further share some experiences with ICT sector in Korea where 60 years ago Korea does not have any foreign support in ICT sector but some 50 years later Korea is able to gain international acknowledgment and recognition as one of the most reliable ICT technology due to highly skilled labour in this sector.
During his speech H.E. Kan Chanmeta have said that the timing of the establishment of this institution in accordance the with integration plan of the Royal Government of Cambodia to put ICT sector under the MPTC and as one of the key priority for development under the 5th mandate. Understanding that human resource development play a vital role in building the ICT sector, the ministry decided that an establishment of the ICT Institute is a must and furthermore we must establish a research center in order to promote innovation, research and development in technology that will help act as a pillar for development of posts, telecommunications and ICTs sectors. In this sense, the Cambodia-Korea ICT institute will have an important role in facilitating and encourage training and research programs and activities in ICTs sector.
