The Second Workshop on the Draft of ICT Development Policy

Phnom Penh, 10 February 2015-H.E. Kan Chanmeta, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications had presided the second workshop on the draft of ICTs Development Policy with participation of representatives from relevant ministries and telecommunication operators in Cambodia.
H.E. Chea Manith, Director General of ICT General Department highlighted that the purposes of this ICT Development Policy was to streamline Human Resource Development (HRD) and to emphasize the roles and benefits of ICTs. These objectives can be met through enhancing infrastructure connectivity, developing human capital, and promoting professional skills. In turn, this will promote favorable business environment in ICTs sector that ensure better free market competition in Cambodia.
“In the fifth mandate, The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has put forward the Rectangle Strategy Phase Three focusing on the development toward peace, security, social order, long-term economic growth, sustainable development and equality, with emphasis to improve Cambodians’ standard of living.” addressed H.E. Kan Chanmeta. His Excellency also added that the RGC has acknowledged the benefits and necessity of ICT development as the priority sector and the momentum that contributes to boost social and economic growth in Cambodia. He urged participants to actively discuss and raise any suggestions, which would help to the ICT Development Policy formulation that will be well responded to any related challenges and consistent to policies and strategic development plans of ASEAN, Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
