Minister Vandeth Chea Participates in Huawei’s “Seeds for the Future 2020” Virtual Closing Ceremony
Phnom Penh, 11 November 2020, Minister of Post and Telecommunications Vandeth Chea took part in Huawei Cambodia’s “Seeds for the Future 2020” closing ceremony via Zoom videoconference. Present at the virtual ceremony were H.E. Mr. Wentian Wang, ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Cambodia, representative of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, CEO of Huawei Cambodia, representatives of partner universities and students. Established in 2008 by Huawei, the “Seeds for the Future” serves as the company’s long-term and global initiative to contribute to the development of ICT talents, promote digital upskilling and engage tech-savvy students in the latest ICT advancement.
Speaking at the ceremony, minister Chea reiterated the importance of digital technology in allowing us to continue our daily tasks despite the current Covid-19 pandemic. In fact, while this year’s “Seeds for the Future” program was held entirely virtually, all 30 participating students were still able to enjoy the same learning materials on topics such as Internet of Things (IoT), fifth generation (5G) communication technology and Cybersecurity.
Minister Chea also highlighted MPTC’s role in supporting the education sector through cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to develop a mobile e-learning app, allowing students to continue their studies remotely using their mobile devices. Going forward, MPTC plans to provide internet connection to all public schools and create an e-library platform as a collection of learning materials in both Khmer and English languages.
In his closing remarks, minister Chea encouraged the 30 students to leverage their knowledge, ideas and resources to develop products or software applications as MPTC stood ready to support tech startups. MPTC or NIPTICT would be willing to provide internship opportunities should the students be interested.
