Press Release on The Regional Capacity Development Workshop under the theme “Artificial Intelligence in the Public Sector: Policy Considerations and Best Practices”

The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) has the honor to inform that MPTC has supported the Regional Capacity Development Workshop on “Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Public Sector: Policy Considerations and Best Practices”, which is part of a three-year (2024-2026) capacity development initiative of ACSH and UNDP, aiming to build the capacity of public servants from different levels of government for advancing digital transformation and digital governance in the twelve participated countries situated in three geographical regions: (i) Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia); (ii) Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan); and (iii) Asia-Pacific (Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Mongolia, and the Philippines).

The regional capacity building workshop on 5-6 December 2024 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, has been organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Astana Civil Service Hub (ACSH), the Ministry of the Interior and Safety of the Republic of Korea (MOIS), the National Information Society Agency (NIA) of the Republic of Korea, Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT), World Bank GovTech Practice, and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), with the participation of more than 60 development partners from 12 countries such as relevant ministries, high and mid-ranking public officials and practitioners involved in digital governance and digital policy formulation and implementation from the Republic of Korea.

In line with the Digital Economy and Society Policy Framework 2021-2035, and Digital Government Policy 2022-2035, MTPC has the honor to assist in organizing the 2nd Regional Capacity Development Workshop focusing on “AI in the Public Sector: Policy Considerations and Best Practices”, presided over by His Excellency Chea Vandeth, Minister of Post and Telecommunications and Chairman of the Digital Government Committee (DGC).

This Workshop under the theme of AI in the Public Sector has provided an opportunity for high and mid-level public officials and practitioners to deepen their knowledge of AI, which if used strategically and responsibly has the potential to transform how governments function, design and implement policies, provide public services and run their operations. Experts from the MOIS and NIA of Korea has presented relevant policies and best practices in the application of AI in the Republic of Korea. In addition, experts from the World Bank GovTech team and from the ITU has shared knowledge and expertise on how to gain a better understanding of the benefits as well as the challenges by incorporating AI into their policy-making, implementation processes, public service delivery and operations.

As the host, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications has shared the experience and development of Cambodia in digital transformation and the governance and application of AI in digital government products, as well as the digital skill development program in Cambodia.
