Phnom Penh— On August 1, 2025, His Excellency Chun Vat, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, presided over the Online Safety Forum 2025 under the theme “Building Trust in the Age of AI,” held at the Cambodia-Korea Cooperation Center (CKCC) within the Royal University of Phnom Penh. The forum gathered approximately 600 participants, including representatives from ministries and institutions, development partners, technology companies, civil society organizations, academic institutions, teachers, students, and the general public.
The Online Safety Forum 2025 was organized to raise citizen awareness about online threats and to share knowledge on the latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly generative AI—a new generation of AI technology that is capable of producing both valuable and inappropriate content and may pose threats to public health and the order of social information. The forum was conducted in two parallel formats: four panel discussions and two practical workshops, all of which were open to the public free of charge. In addition, there were also exhibitions to showcase the MPTC’s achievements in delivering digital public services.
In his remarks, H.E. Secretary of State expressed that this forum reflects a multistakeholder approach, a vital mechanism for addressing online safety challenges in a secure and effective manner. He emphasized that ensuring online safety and cybersecurity requires collaboration across all relevant stakeholders, in which the government plays a key role in setting policies, while the private sector—particularly digital technology companies—must implement technical safety guidelines to protect their products, services, and users. At the same time, users themselves need to have a better understanding of online safety and take proactive steps to protect themselves.
Before concluding his remarks, H.E. Secretary of State called on all users to remain cautious and to continuously strengthen their knowledge of online safety in order to better protect themselves in cyberspace. He also encouraged participants to actively engage in the workshops and learn the challenges and best approaches in order to deepen their understanding and contribute collectively to building a safe digital environment for all citizens, especially for Cambodian children.
