Phnom Penh: On the afternoon of April 23, 2026, His Excellency Chea Vandeth, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, presided over the closing ceremony of the workshop on “Earth Observation and Data Collection Technique by Using Satellite Technology”. The event was attended by Mr. Awais Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of Pixxel Space Technologies Inc., along with leaders and civil servants from the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) and its provincial departments, representatives from relevant ministries and institutions, professors, and students—bringing together approximately 210 participants at the MPTC headquarters.

In his remarks, H.E. Minister emphasized that the Ministry has consistently prioritized the development of human resources in satellite and space-related fields by sending technical officials on study visits to satellite technology companies and institutions, as well as supporting their participation in specialized training programs in satellite and space technologies. Looking ahead, the Ministry will explore the possibility of providing scholarships for students pursuing telecommunications studies, with a particular focus on key satellite-related courses at the Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology and partner higher education institutions. At the same time, H.E. Minister stated that as Cambodia considers utilizing satellite services from various providers to support sectors such as agriculture, environmental management, and urban planning, it is equally important to assess the feasibility of launching Cambodia’s own satellite within the next five years. In addition, H.E. Minister highlighted that the Ministry is currently studying best practices for establishing a dedicated national agency responsible for managing and coordinating activities related to space.

It is worth noting that the workshop aimed to facilitate the experience exchange of experts from Pixxel Space Technologies Inc. with civil servants and staff of MPTC, representatives from relevant ministries and institutions, professors, and students. The sessions covered the current landscape of the space sector in Cambodia and the fundamentals of Earth observation and remote sensing satellite systems, as well as the analysis of hyperspectral satellite images.
