Phnom Penh: On the morning of August 6, 2026, His Excellency Huoth Chanyareth, Under Secretary of State of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) and Vice Chairman of the Sub-Committee on the Prevention, Suppression, and Crackdown of Drugs via postal deliveries, presided over a dissemination workshop on the Prevention and Suppression of Prohibited Items Sent Via Postal Services and Relevant Laws and Regulations at the MPTC headquarters. The workshop was attended by ministry leaders; H.E. Lieutenant General Sam Vannvirak, Deputy Commissioner General of the National Police; alongside representatives from the National Authority for Combating Drugs, Courts of First Instance in Phnom Penh, the Prosecution Office, Internal Security Department, Anti-Drug Department, deputy commissioners, and heads of Anti-Drug Crime Bureaus from all 24 provinces; provincial departments of post and telecommunications; and post operators.
The workshop was co-organized by the MPTC and the Ministry of Interior for (1) raising awareness among post operators and stakeholders about the prohibited parcel types and experiences for the prevention and crackdown; (2) disseminating current laws and regulations related to prohibited items; and (3) strengthening closer collaboration between competent authorities and post operators to effectively prevent and crack down on offenses.

Furthermore, H.E. Under Secretary of State Huoth Chanyareth stated that the post sector plays a critical role in delivering and distributing packages and facilitating communications, particularly in the digital and e-commerce era, thereby making post service more diverse. However, unscrupulous individuals take advantage of this opportunity to exploit these services by sending prohibited parcels through post delivery, including concealed narcotics, bombs or explosive items, and illicit wild animals—thereby threatening public health, social order, and national security.
H.E. Under Secretary of State emphasized that H.E. Minister Chea Vandeth has instructed the organization of this workshop to raise deeper awareness among post operators and relevant institutions. This initiative aims to eradicate such offenses, aligning with the theme “Together, Innovatively Responding to Drug Issues in the New Context” set by H.E. Santibandit Neth Savoeun, Acting Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Authority for Combating Drugs, representative of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 25, 2026.
